We recently collaborated with the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, and the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) to produce Eleven Museums, Eleven Directors: Conversations on Art & Leadership, a book of interviews with eleven of the top art museum directors in the country. Michael Shapiro, the High’s Director Emeritus, wanted to create a reference tool to inspire the next generation of museum professionals. In these conversations, museum leaders talk about their career paths, the challenges they face, and the future of museums. Interviewees include Thelma Golden of the Studio Museum in Harlem, Glenn Lowry of MoMA, Ann Philbin of the Hammer Museum at UCLA, and Gary Tinterow of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Eleven Museums, Eleven Directors is sure to become essential reading for anyone considering a career in art museum leadership. Copies are available through the High’s website.
